It was an overwhelming event for the entire team of SOBI FM Ilorin, Kwara state on Monday July 10, 2017 when they officially flagged off the Radio station. The station which is located on the popular Sobi mountain in Sobi community Ilorin, boost of a 21st century broadcast facility that guaranty 24 hours Transmission and online streaming.

The event witnessed by a large turnout of audience, amongst  whom were top dignitaries  like the director general National Broadcasting Commission-IS’HAQ MODIBBO KAWU, The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara state council of traditional rulers – Alhaji Ibrahim Kolapo Sulu Gambari and The Kwara state Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed who also commissioned the opening of the Radio station.

The Governor during his speech congratulated the Chairman board of Trustees of SOBI Fm, Mr. Lukman Mustapha on a job well done and also expressed his commitment and support towards transforming Kwara State media into a digitally inclined system of communication with its citizens to foster growth and development in its communities.

The chairman of the Station Mr. Mustapha, who was overwhelmed by the turn out, during his speech expressed his sincere gratitude to all and has this to say ” this event, as you can see, is taking place on the belt of a historical site bequeathed by nature to a historical city and for the benefit of a wonderful people of beautiful history. I will like to openly thank God Almighty for making me the ink with which he has written this beautiful story of adding a technologically driven value to this natural endowment; The SOBI hill’s existence and history is as old as the city on which it lies (that is, Ilorin). This is indeed, a blessing from Allah SWT.”

The chairman went further to emphasize on the goals of set up toward the development of a technologically driven form of communication ” the vision of this highly digitized broadcast outfit equipped with state of the arts and 21st century compliant facilities is to contribute to the advancement of a forward looking Ilorin Emirate community in particular, Kwara State in general and Nigeria as a whole. We are set to deliver a robust, highly impact, technology driven, educative, informative, entertaining, cost effective, highly affordable, industry standard compliant and above all people oriented digital broadcast content which shall set a new enviable standard in the broadcast industry in Kwara state.

We have also discovered the need to use this enterprise to achieve positive social rebirth, especially within our host community. As an effective instrument of social mobilization, cultural preservation and information dissemination amongst others, Sobi101.9FM is here to support the efforts of our community leaders towards the restoration of our cherished value system, as you will begin to see in our various programming. I must therefore categorically state here and now that Sobi101.9 FM is for everybody who shares in our goal of a better society. We have resolved to be completely friendly and impactful to all. We have developed and ready to adhere strictly to the core professional ethical standards of balanced reportage, fair representations and proper communications as we shall serve the good interest of everybody to their maximum satisfaction, because, “objectivity” is our set focus!

The General manger Segun Bailey Adeniji who has been in the business of broadcast and Content creator expert with over 2 decade experience stated that the journey to the birth of Sobi FM commenced 2 years ago.  During his speech, he stated, the stations commitment towards creating contents that reflects the language of the local communities ” at Sobi 101.9FM, we are committed and focused on promoting quality, apolitical, fact-finding, focused, resourceful, progressive and unbiased reportage, while also educating, empowering and entertaining the populace in a manner that would fast-track rapid socio-economic development of the entire North-central region of Nigeria, where the station has become a household name.

Hence, we have programmes that encourage local content, reflecting the language, views, and other socio-cultural interests of people and communities in the states that receives our signal. Sobi 101.9FM is also putting in place structures to broadcast programmes in some languages that appears forgotten in dialects like Batnum-baaru (Baruten), Boko-baaru (Kaiama), Nupe, as well as other national dialects, that will directly reach out to the natives in the entire North-Central region like NO other station.  Permit me to reiterate that Sobi 101.9FM is a progressive medium and we will reflect this attribute and others in our programmes broadcast.
